Serve With Us
We invite everyone to become involved in our community through the gifts God has given them.
There are many ways to serve, such as becoming a lay reader, volunteering during our monthly ministries, mowing the lawn, or serving coffee hour. Whatever your strengths, we welcome all members and offer training for new volunteers. Your help significantly impacts our church life, and we encourage you to pray and see how God is calling you to serve.
Ministries
There are many community ministries at Zion, including Martha’s Kitchen and Repair Café. These are opportunities for our congregation to come together and serve our community with services, food, fellowship and prayer.
Visit our Community Outreach tab to learn more about the many ministries offered through Zion and how you can serve with us.
Altar Guild
The job of the Altar Guild is to prepare the church for Sunday and holiday services. They ensure the correct colors are used for each liturgical season and that all the proper implements and vestments are in place so the priest is ready for each service. This is a quiet kind of ministry and wonderful opportunity for those who prefer to serve out of the spotlight. We provide all the necessary training for anyone who would like to join the Altar Guild.
Acolytes
Acolytes are important to every Sunday service. This meaningful role allows both youth and adults to assist during services by carrying the cross, lighting candles, and supporting the clergy throughout the liturgy. Serving as an acolyte is an opportunity to deepen your faith and encounter worship from a new perspective. Whether you’re new to this role or have experience, we welcome you to volunteer.
Lectors
Lector is just another way of saying “reader”. Lectors serve during the Sunday service by reading the scripture passages and leading some of the prayers and responses found in the weekly liturgy. You don’t have to be an amazing public speaker to volunteer as a lector, as everything you’ll need to say is found in the bulletin.
Coffee Hour
Serve by hosting or co-hosting a weekly Coffee Hour, held every Sunday following the service in the parish hall. This role is perfect for those who love to serve and appreciate the joy of gathering around food. Volunteers make the coffee and provide a sampling of light snacks to be enjoyed during our hour of fellowship.
Sign-ups are weekly, so sign-up for one Sunday at a time or the whole month - whatever works for you. New volunteers are always welcome! We’ll provide training and support to ensure you feel confident and prepared. If you’re interested, please sign up on the sheet in the back hallway or speak with a church member.
Stewardship
We are looking to form a stewardship committee. Stewardship is an important aspect of being a Christian, and we are called to be good stewards of God’s blessings. This is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy yard work or indoor work like cleaning and organizing. Those who steward our building and grounds maintain the lawn during the summer months, plant flowers, shovel snow and salt sidewalks in the winter, and clean and organize the church building throughout the year. We are specifically looking for someone to operate our riding lawnmower.
If you are interested in any of these stewardship opportunities and continuing the faithful work of stewardship already underway, please contact us or see John G. or Brenda M.
